I bought the LG G Watch in December to try Android Wear. Android Wear is the name Google gives to its smartwatch platform.
To be honest, I don’t use it as much as I thought I would. Let me give you some examples:
- When I receive a Whatsapp message I have to tap on the screen to answer. Once I do, the smartwatch doesn’t recognize what I’m saying (that happens a lot, even in Spanish).
- If I ask for directions to a place, let’s say the coffee shop, Android Wear takes a lot of time to process the request. This because it has to open the maps app on the phone to check.
- It is quite impossible to get the right directions once you say the name of the street you’re looking for.
Voice recognition is still an area of improvement for the search giant. Spanish seems to be a language that needs to be mastered.
Everything comes down to tapping the small screen of the watch. This completely kills the idea of not having to touch the device to access your stuff.
The battery is another limitation – the smart watch only gives you 6 to 8 hours of straight use. I know Android Wear is still on early stages, so I hope Google puts some effort to battle the likes of Apple and Samsung.
Do you have an Android Wear smartwatch? Maybe your experience has been different, so please share it below.
