Namco has a new Dragon Ball Z game on the App Store and Google Play Store. If you are a longtime fan of the TV series don’t get too excited, because the game kind of sucks.

Unlike a PlayStation version of the game where you could battle an opponent and kick the sh*t out of them, Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle reminds me a lot to Candy Crush.

Don’t get me wrong. A kid may have fun playing the free app (parents, beware: there are in-app purchases available that kids can buy without permission).

But what about adults that used to watch the show when there were kids? I would say that this game is not for you.

Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle

Like most of the games that have been released recently, Dokkan Battle takes a very simple approach. You move Dragon Ball Z characters through a gameboard (Monopoly?) and defeat opponents by kicking balls of the same color (Candy Crush?).

I mean, I couldn’t play the game for more than 5 minutes. It was really boring. This is no Dragon Ball Z fighting game, it’s just a way of squeezing money out of kids.

In-app purchases, according to the App Store go from $0.99 to $50 to level up. That’s why you should disable purchases through the Settings app on iOS – just head to the Restrictions tab inside General.
