Sometimes you want to travel and visit a new place, but things get in the way. Work and money come to mind as the main reasons not to go somewhere exotic.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money or ask for days away from work to see a new city. GuidiGo can show you around right on your mobile device.
GuidiGo is a free app for iPhone, iPad and Android smartphones and tablets that works as a virtual guide. Log in with your Facebook account to get access to the store; there you will find a great selection of cities around the world and virtual tours to take.
Some tours will cost you. Prices go from $2.99 to $5.99, and you can “try before you buy”, but there are lots of virtual trips that have a “free” price tag.
A tour page displays images from inside the guide, a summary, an author “page” and an itinerary, as well as user reviews and similar guides. Once you download a virtual tour, you can access it whenever you like in your library.
GuidiGo recommends you “charge your phone’s battery to the maximum capacity” to enjoy the ride without interruptions. Guides display a map with different interest points and a “play” button.
A virtual tour consists of images and a voice in the background to provide information about the site. To exit the tour or get more information, just press the menu button on the top left.
GuidiGo also works when you are at a site. You can use it as a virtual guide to show you the main points of interest; although the app advices you to be careful and mind your surroundings.
What do you think of GuidiGo? It is available for iOS 6 or later, and Android 4.0.3 or above, and even has a Google Glass app.
