The search giant just updated its iOS app to let users enjoy YouTube videos in the background.
The updated iPad app now supports Split View, so you can now watch a music or funny clip and simultaneously browse on Safari or check your mail. But no picture-in-picture capabilities yet.
As I explained in more detail back in October, the lack of PIP love may have something to do with Google’s monthly subscription Red, which enables you to enjoy the video’s audio in the back while performing different tasks on an Android smartphone or tablet, iPhone, or indeed, iPad.
We’re still sway from dream of having YouTube floating in every corner of the screen while playing a game or simply browsing the Home. Nevertheless, the Split View addition makes it easier to keep the fun going while you read an eliaspelcastre.com article or send an iMessage.
All you have to do to start using YouTube’s new Split View feature is download the 11.10 version of the iOS app (and own a device that supports Split View.) Open it and pull your finger from the left side of the screen to bring all the Apple or third party supported apps. You can the adjust the screen to make the apps even. All you have to do now is tell your iPad productivity time goodbye.
