How to get three months of Reddit Gold for free

Reddit just launched an iPhone and Android app, and to celebrate the service is giving away three months of Gold at no cost. To get the limited-time offer (apparently, it will last for a week), you need to download the app on your mobile device and start a new account.

Sadly, it looks like Reddit: The Official App is only available in the US app stores. You can create an American Apple ID without a debit card, or download the Android app from APKMirror when it leaks.

I tried to create a Reddit account from the app, but I got this continuous “Try again later” prompt. So I decided to start a new one on the desktop website. I logged in with my new credentials on my iPhone, and Reddit sent me an instant message letting me know my account got upgraded to gold.

Reddit Gold lets you “turn off ads, change themes, highlight comments, and create a super secret society,” among other things. You can read the full list here.

Don´t freak out if you still see ads on your front page; access the preferences tab, and scroll down until you see “Gold options.” There you can hide them and take advantage of all the premium subscription goodies.
